In March David and I will be celebrating our 25th
wedding anniversary!!!! Last
spring David blessed me with his gift.
David told me in celebration of our 25th that he would love
to take me on a trip to anywhere I would like to go and put me in charge of
planning our 25th anniversary trip. That is quite a task for me. I love to travel and have many places I would like to visit
and see. I chose a trip to Europe
in the autumn. After much time
looking at places and trips, and talking with travel agents, I chose our trip
to England, Spain and France; and will share it with you in the next few posts.
Please feel free to skip through to the pictures but I would like to share more
details for those that are interested and maybe help someone wanting to take a
similar trip.
David and I enjoy traveling and seeing many things. Our idea of a vacation is different
though. I love to embrace an area
by going, going, going and exploring as much as is possible. He would prefer to travel by going
somewhere and just relaxing, this poses a bit of a problem because in a new
area it is hard for me just to sit and relax. I want to go, see, learn, and
experience the culture. We chose a cruise; this way the days at sea we relax
and on land we can explore all day and go back to the boat for rest. A cruise is also quite a bit cheaper
then the very expensive hotels in Western Europe and of course your food is
included. We do not drink or
gamble and so the price of the cruise is what it is.
I really wanted to spend some time in London. So, we flew to London and spent our
first few days there. The travel
time from our home to London was 12 ½ hours. Not too bad.
The travel agent said that she had to tell us to be at the airport 3
hours early but if we were there 2 ½ hours early we would be fine. I was a bit surprised because I had
planned on being there 1 hour early.
We did get there early and I am still unsure if that was necessary. We took laps around the airport and
then loaded our plane for Seattle at 4:20 p.m. After a short layover in Seattle we boarded the next plane
for London!!!! I was very
excited. They informed us that our
travel time would be about an hour shorter then expected.
The plane ride was nice. After about an hour they served us a meal. Each seat had its own television and we
were able to choose our own movie, tv show, or music. There wasn't a lot worth watching or listening to. It
would be nice to have Christian Music as an option. So, I would advice downloading your own music or movies on
your mobile device. I did enjoy
the station that allowed you to track where you are at any particular moment. It had a map that showed where our
plane was and the travel time passed and travel time left.
Our goal was to get some sleep on the plane and hit the
ground ready to explore. Neither
David nor I have much success in sleeping on planes and this was no
exception. We were blessed
with a plane that was not very full and we each had our own row but we were
still unable to get much sleep. I
did manage about 4, maybe 5 hours of sleep. We were served a breakfast and then landed.
HOW EXCITING!!!
